Yom Kippur Afternoon Programming

1:00 PM - 1:45 PM What does it take to do a mitzvah?

What is a mitzvah? Are we already doing any? Would we like to do more? For the coming year, would I / we like to commit to one or more? Negative mitzvot require willingness, intention, commitment, attention, and discipline. Positive mitzvot also require time, energy, and cooperation from others.

This is in person only

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM, Al Chet for the Sins of Racism

Download the handout here.

Come share a new approach to reciting the Al Chet as a community — our opportunity to bring Yom Kippur’s transformative spirit of atonement, healing and connection to the sins of racism that persists in our lives and in our systems. We will read and discuss an adaptation of the prayer as written by Yavilah McCoy, a renowned educator and a pioneer of the Jewish diversity and equity movement.

Some questions that are raised are: As we think of the most vulnerable among us, how will we seek forgiveness? How will we reach ahead with hope against discrimination and hate?

We will be meeting at 2pm and the program will be accessible in person and on Zoom.

Download the handout here.
